Nuggets JaVale McGee undergoes surgery, out for rest of season

Sometimes stress fractures in legs require surgery. JaVale McGee said his leg had been bothering him since the end of the 2012-13 season, continued into the off-season, and to start this 2013-14 season. He appeared in just five games for the Nuggets this season and averaged 7.0 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16 minutes per game.

From the Nuggets:

Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee underwent surgery this morning to repair a stress fracture in his left tibia, Nuggets General Manager/Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly announced today.

The procedure was performed in West Palm Beach, Fla., by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dror Paley.

"While it's disappointing that we won't have JaVale back on the court this season, we're happy that he can move forward in his recovery," Connelly said.

It is quite disappointing that McGee will miss the rest of the season. The 26 year old center was supposed to be in a featured role for the team this season, but the injury didn't allow that to happen. His rehab was coming along very slowly and now his return will be delayed even more.

Hopefully a speedy recovery will happen for the big fella, but you have to wonder what his future is going to look like in Denver.
