Cheap Seat Stiff: Game Three

Nothing like a Nuggets victory to start your week off right. I missed the game on Saturday, of which I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, it's not every day the MVP blocks the last shot to seal the win. On the other hand, it really sucks what happened to MPJ.

Not exactly the start we were all hoping for after the max deal. This is your most recent reminder that NuggLife often works in mysterious and unfortunate ways. We soldier on and hope this most recent back injury isn't too serious.

On to the game!

  1. Tonight was the last home contest before Ball Arena's health check goes into effect. It's the right call but I'm fully prepared for Wednesday to be a complete circus for people who don't show up early. Small price to pay though.
  2. It seemed like there were a lot of Heat fans in the house, as I spotted multiple Herro, Miami Vice style jerseys (which I’m not ashamed to admit looks pretty dope). The road team just didn't give their faithful much to cheer about and thus they didn't stand out. Maybe it was due to the less appealing variation Miami was sporting tonight. The buddy I was with thought the lettering on the front looked like a letter from a serial killer.
  3. Auston Trusty from the Rapids took the opening shot. He bricked it, but those boys are in the playoffs! From someone who doesn't pay any attention to soccer, always glad to see a local team doing well. I’m not ready to get my hopes up again about the Broncos, regardless of how much they pounded the crap out of the Cowboys yesterday.
  4. Not my favorite halftime show. The Nuggets brought out a group of kids, gave them each some time on the clock and let them see how many shots they could make. While they got to shoot from closer than NBA regulation, for some reason they weren’t allowed to shoot from the same spot more than twice and had to chase down their own rebounds. We trying to put the kids through a practice or just let them have some fun? I think the winner received tickets to another game in the future. Maybe they’ll put on a better show for him at the next game.
  5. Rocky was again ice cold and couldn’t knock down his halfcourt shot. I haven’t been to back to back home games yet so far, so we’ll see on Wednesday if this is becoming a cold streak or not.
  6. Alright, let’s chat about the elephant in the room. I couldn’t really see the foul from Markieff Morris on Nikola Jokic, but I sure as hell saw Jokic bodycheck Morris to the floor. We all know what happened next and opinions I overheard were divided. Heat fans were cursing Jokic for being a "dirty bastard" and couldn’t understand why he wasn’t immediately tossed. Nuggets fans either weren’t buying that Morris was injured from the foul (he certainly wasn’t feeling very good after it, at the very least) or were confused about what upset Joker in the first place. After seeing the replay, it’s pretty clear that Morris gave Jokic a hard foul. The Morris brothers have a reputation for getting under the skin of other players, and on this night Markieff poked the bear one too many times.

I don’t condone what Jokic did, but I understand it. When you’ve been getting hacked to bits your entire career and have fresh scratches on your arms every game, and you think someone is intentionally trying to hurt you when the outcome of this one was basically settled, you might react exactly how Jokic did. I’m sure he’s not the first player who wanted to pop a Morris brother, but that doesn’t make it right either.

And I have no doubt that the Heat aren’t going to forget that. We’ll see whether Jokic gets suspended and how that impacts the rest of this homestand.

Hope everyone is well, and whatever you do, don’t piss off a large Serbian man if you happen to see one. Doesn’t seem like it works out very well.
