Guess who's back? Back again. Guess who's back? Tell a friend.
I mean, you don't have to tell your friends. It would be cool if you did but honestly just reading my observations is plenty of support. With that in mind, here's what I observed from the Nuggets victory over the Clippers
- Nothing makes up for a bad loss against a bad team as well as a good win against a good team. The Nuggets were everything last night that they weren't on Saturday: energetic, efficient and looking like they actually wanted to be there. On the one hand, it was great to see them bounce back. On the other, they couldn't have mustered up some more of that enthusiasm against the Cavs? Okay, that's the last time I'll complain about that.
- There was a surprising lack of Clippers fans in attendance. I understand that they don't have as much of a following as some of the other big market teams, but I assumed that a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon after Kawhi Leonard signed there. I'm pretty sure there were more Cavs fans than Clippers fans at The Can over the weekend. Doesn't that just seem weird?
- Count this one as a first for me since I became a season-ticket holder: someone in the section next to me vomited all over their row. It was so messy that the ushers moved all the fans sitting there to different seats. Interestingly enough, they brought those fans back after everything was cleaned up. Also weird.
- It was cool to see the Clippers wear their San Andreas jerseys in person (I loved that game growing up). I also never get tired of watching Kawhi play live. The Clippers sure seemed tired though and rather disinterested in what was going on.
- I bagged on him pretty hard in my last post, so I have to give credit to Gary Harris here. His 15 points were a big reason why the outcome turned out differently this time. I also have to throw out some kudos to Michael Malone, who amended his own mistake by playing Michael Porter Jr. for 19 minutes off the bench. His 13 points were another big factor in the good guys emerging victorious.
- Seriously though, there's almost no consistency game to game with the bench's rotation. It's hard to get in a groove when you never know how much you'll be playing on a given night. In basketball, sometimes having too much depth can be a bad thing.
- Have you ever seen nine-month-old babies race each other? I have. Last night's halftime show featured the little tots crawling across mid-court from one parent to the other. One baby stormed out of the gate and looked like it had the race in the bag, only to blow its lead and lose at the end to a late arrival. The rest of the babies had no clue what was happening. Kids these days.
- Count this as another first: Rocky had two segments where he attempted his half-court shot. Once in the third quarter and once in the fourth. Was I at a basketball game or in the Twilight Zone?
- Few things are more satisfying to a live crowd than the opposing team's coach being ejected, especially when the home team is winning. For all the highlights that occurred, Doc Rivers being tossed may have earned the biggest pop of the night.
- Towards the end of the game, I heard people calling my name from a few rows behind me and turned around to see one of my co-workers sitting with her friends and family. She waved and gave a big smile while I awkwardly waved back. Randomly running into people from work is kind of my nightmare.
All in all, a much more satisfying outcome than the night before. I'm heading out of town on Wednesday and will miss the next two home games, but I'll see you guys again on the 26th. Hopefully we'll exact some revenge on the Rockets after that beating they gave us last time.
