Bench Michael Malone, Not Michael Porter Jr.

Michael Porter Jr. is arguably the best player in the 2018 NBA draft (formerly the consensus number 1 prospect in the 2017 recruiting class). Among his accomplishments in his young career are Mr. Basketball USA, USA Today Player of the Year, Gatorade Player of the Year, and McDonald's All-American Game MVP. As a senior in high school, he averaged 36.2 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.2 steals and 2.7 blocks, compared to Lebron James' 30.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 2.9 steals, and 1.9 blocks in his senior season, beating him in statistically every category. For the record, Lebron James averaged 39.5 minutes of playing time per game in his rookie year.

With comparisons aside, the point is head coach Michael Malone has relegated Michael Porter Jr. to the bench, cheating Porter and the Denver Nuggets out of tremendous success, and the fans out of joy and celebration. Michael Malone has been giving him, on average, eight minutes a game of playing time (some games as little as three minutes). Malone should be giving Porter at least 20 minutes a game. In fact, Porter should be the starting small forward for the Denver Nuggets, as good as Will Barton has been so far this year.

Michael Porter Jr. spent his first year in the NBA on the bench recovering from a back injury, watching and learning. His back is fully healed. It is time to play.
