Denver Nuggets Sign Thomas Welsh to Two-Way Contract

On Thursday afternoon, the Denver Nuggets announced that they’ve signed one of their 2018 2nd round draft picks, Thomas Welsh, to a two-way contract. Sportando first reported the signing a little over two weeks ago, but Denver made it official with a press release:

The news came just hours before Shams Charania’s report that the Nuggets have signed Monte Morris to a three-year, $4.8 million contract. That move gives Morris the final roster spot, which means that in addition to Welsh, the Nuggets now have another two-way contract to hand out.

Welsh is firmly behind Nikola Jokic and Mason Plumlee on Denver’s depth chart, but his presence on a two-way deal can be viewed as insurance should Jokic roll an ankle again like he did last season. Welsh’s role will be limited, but he could very well make multiple appearances with the team given that they only have two centers on the roster.

Welsh appeared in two Summer League games with Denver. He averaged six points, four rebounds and one assist on 15.7 minutes per game.
