Are we Missing Something?

I've read Stiffs for at least a couple years now, but this is my first post. I really appreciate the passion, commitment and energy of those of you who are so involved, and so competitive in your views as to how to make this team a perennial playoff participant, and moreover a championship contender.

Your basketball acumen far exceeds my layman (lame?) knowledge of the game. I just happen to enjoy it, and there's a hopefulness in me that wants to see the Nuggets succeed.

I will say that the constant drivel about hypothetical trades has grown so tedious as to overtake the site. That said, given the state of our team, I can understand the temptation. Personally, I'd rather read compelling, or even far-fetched ideas about getting our current players to become winners (or at least show a linear improvement progression).

One idea I'll offer up is a 3-guard rotation that I haven't noticed anyone else pushing for; granted, it's unconventional: Barton, Harris and Murray. ... spotted by Mudiay and Nelson, and yes, Beasley.

The hitch is, I'd like the Nuggets to commit to trying Barton as the starting PG. ... a guy who should easily get you 15, 5 and 5 consistently in that roll with reasonable minutes, while contributing energy, and moreover, 'heart.' I could live with his defensive shortcomings, and I think he could adjust his game to reduce his turnovers. Putting him in that role and asking for some leadership from him could pay substantial dividends. I think he's a winner.

I haven't noticed this idea discussed among you, so are you missing something? ... or am I? I say Barton could be core, right along with Jokic and Murray, and Harris. And if those four are the young core (and personally I include Joncho as core), and they're playing like they mean it, doesn't that give the other players a nucleus to feed off of?

I agree with a common notion that Murray deserves more time at the point, and that would be part of my model, but I'd also find ways to get him open looks from SG so as to cultivate his confidence. And that's not to say that he should start over Harris; I think Harris just gets better and better. I would like to see Gary exude some leadership in his game, and if it's in him, a fiery aspect to his personality.

What are your thoughts about Barton as a core player, and experimenting with him in the PG role?
