Now that Mike Malone has been hired as head coach, it gives us some clarity on the type of player that they'll look to draft on June 25th. Players who have ability to play within a team defensive will stand out a bit more than others. I also think that the front office won't be locked in on a certain position as they make their decision.
Justice Winslow at this juncture is more of a defensive player. Their biggest defensive void at the moment lies in the perimeter. However, there should be more room for him to add some new skills to his offensive game. He might already be taken by the time the Nuggets select at 7.
Stanley Johnson is a similar defensive talent to Winslow but he currently projects in the lower half of the top ten. He is not only an immediate fit for Coach Malone and also ties in the Nuggets to return to a fast breaking team again. Johnson is not a complete offensive player either yet but his strengths on that end are better than Winslow.
Theres also a couple bigs who could be rim protectors for the Nuggets in Willie Cauley-Stein and Myles Turner. WCS lack of offensive skills do not look to be a great fit alongside Jusuf Nurkic. Turner on the other hand could complement Nurkic with his weakside shoot blocking potential on one end and ability to stretch the basket to give Jusuf room to operate in the post.
What other players have the potential to fit in well under new coach Mike Malone?
