1) Egg on face of Josh and Stan Kroenke. Though never acknowledged, whomever was responsible for firing George Karl - I assume it was Josh - and hiring Brian Shaw, shit the bed and threw this franchise backwards. They are not interested in making the playoffs, just titles, they bellowed. A new era, they bellowed. This is from their own website:
Points Per Game
No data found for 2014-15 Playoffs (nor will there be)
They were forced by a player mutiny to fire the incompetent Brian Shaw. They showed no class in acknowledging Karl's contribution to the team when he returned to the arena. Now they get a decent draft pick but must rebuild in a hurry. They've shown they know little about making head coaching decisions, so far.
2) The disappearance of a strident and committed Ty Lawson and the reappearance of the heart of the team, Danilo Gallinari. Ty had a decent pro year, but by his own admission, did not play aggressively to score. He routinely passed up scoring chances by flipping the ball to someone else. His assist numbers were up. On the other hand, Gallo recovered fully from his injury, finally, and showed what a very good all-around player he can be. His shooting is not as accurate as it needs to be, but he played good defense and filled up the stat sheet on a nightly basis. He also had a 47-point game. He's a key piece to the future, if we can resign him.
3) Coach. Find an up-and-comer, please. No retreads. Someone committed to the youth movement that DEN is now in, like it or not.
4) Personnel. This is everyone's playground for a losing team. So it might as well be mine.
Players to move or cut: Hickson, Foye, Chandler (some value could be received in return there), Arthur. For the right package in return, I'd also trade Lawson and Faried, whom I see, if we don't trade him, as a nice sixth man paired with Will Barton off the bench and either Nelson or some jet point guard. Erick Green will be out of this league soon. Harris has to improve now or he will as well. He came out too early.
Biggest needs: An all-around 2 guard who has speed and power both. Hard to come by. There are several in the draft and I'd like to see them draft a good 2 guard or tweener. Next: A point guard who can guard someone yet still be a playmaker.
5) This team will not improve unless it does so defensively. 27th in the league does not cut it. I prefer drafting all-around players, not specialists. Any team can't have more than one or two jump shot specialists who don't play good defense.
6) Young player development. Nurkic is either a starter or why have him on your team, with his defensive instinct? Nurk needs to learn an offensive game. It's ok, he's young. But why the crying all the time? Lauvergne could work into a starting 4. At first there will be growing pains, but he's got a better ceiling than Faried, IMO. If Jokic is who Stiffs say he is, he profiles as a specialist off the bench, 3-point shooter at 4 or 3. Jokic backing up Gallo is intriguing, as we don't give up length.
7) I'm addicted to curry. I picked up some Sukhi's Green Chili Curry chutney at the Farmer's Market at Jack London Square in Oakland last winter. It'll take the enamel off your teeth but so good on everything.
8) I've just upped my technology so that I'll be able to stream my cable feed to my laptop and onto the tv in California, so won't miss games this year when the lady and I spend the winter in the Bay Area.
9) Damn you Rockies for sucking me in. Damn you to hell.
10) Plea's Picks: After getting creamed early, I rode Brian Shaw's downfall to a 62% winning percentage, which basically means I would have broke even after paying the juice on losses. Historically I run between 60 and 65% picking against the line and over/under, including two very bad years out of about 20. Season record, 27-16.
Not so good on the season prediction I made of 43 wins. Wow. What a season to forget.
