In the "everything sucks forever" file, the Denver Nuggets announced in their injury report this morning that Danilo Gallinari suffered a right meniscus team (not his acl repaired knee, which is his left one). He will need surgery to repair the damage and there is no timetable for his return although he is expected back at some point.
In a cruel twist of irony, Gallo had his best game of the season against the Indiana Pacers. He had 19 points and was driving the lane with confidence. Brian Shaw took Gallo out of the game with five minutes left in the contest and was not inserted back in. Gallo gave no indication of pain or discomfort after the game, and no one was really the wiser that something was amiss until the injury report came out this morning.
It's not unusual for those who suffer major knee injuries to get what is called "rebound" injuries. Derick Rose suffered from the same thing last season. You rehab your other knee so much that it ends up being your "strong" knee, but your other knee will often suffer from wear from overcompensation. However, just as Gallinari was starting to get his groove back, this happens.
And everything sucks.
UPDATE
From Chris Dempsey:
Gallo is expected to have surgery in the next day or two, and there is a tentative timetable now; out three weeks. #Nuggets
