Ok, I've been following this site for a while, but just got around to registering so I can participate, and I thought I'd start with a shout out to Masai Ujiri. Yes, I do understand it's a bit premature to heap adulation on the guy when we haven't won a playoff series, but let's remember where we've been.
I've been a Nuggets fan since the Fat Lever/Alex English days, I've watched Bernie Bickerstaff(Efthemios Rentzias, anyone?), Dan Issel("Ain't nobody block shots like your Mamadou"), and Kiki Vandeweghe take their turns gutting our roster in yet another rebuilding plan. I've watched the draft wondering whether Mark Warkentien, Bret Bearup, or Stan Kroenke's cat was in charge, and I've watched our starting backcourt of Junior Harrington and Vincent Yarbrough try to break the all time loss percentage record.
When Masai Ujiri and Josh Kroenke came on board, it seemed obvious that we were either going to trade Melo for 10 cents on the dollar, since he had already pretty much made it clear he had no intention of signing anywhere other than New York, or let him walk for nothing as a free agent. Roughly eighteen months later, we have a young, deep, talented roster that can legitimately contend for one of the top four playoff seeds in the west next year without any further moves. We have the flexibility to make changes or get involved in moves big or small.
Most importantly, I'm as excited for the season to start as I've ever been. I cancelled cable earlier this year, but I've already told my wife that I may have to renege on that once the season starts.
I was a little unsure about Fournier at first(like others here, I thought that PJIII would have been the pick there, if for no other reason than to keep the damn Thunder from pouncing on him), but I like what I'm reading so far. Loved the Quincy Miller pick, and even interested to see how the turkish kid works out(someone buy that boy a burger!). I hope we sign McGee for something less than a max contract, and I think they probably move Julyan Stone or Birdman(either by trade or amnesty) to make room for Q.
Ultimately, I agree with the FO's approach so far to let the young team gel after a full offseason together and see what they can do this year. Let the desperate teams out there reach to make noise in this offseason, we'll have all our chips in hand when the trade deadline rolls around. For the first time in a while, I'm confident that we will make the right move.
