Should Masai make the Brandon Roy phone call?

Reports continue to circulate that Brandon Roy is poised for a comeback. Draft prospect Tony Wroten recently worked out with Roy in Portland and said "you couldn't even tell he hurt his knee."

I've also heard that Roy wants to be a key piece to a contender coming off the bench. Do you think he considers the Nuggets a contender?

That said, do you think Masai should take a gamble on Roy?

I'm sure Roy has some fondness for GK since he grew up in Seattle during Karl's heyday with the Sonics, and because he's coached against Roy in the hard-fought Northwest for a few years. To my knowledge, there's no real animosity between the Blazers and Nuggets.

We know he's never going to be the 22-5-5 guy that he once was, but I think Roy would be the perfect guy to make a run on. He's likely to sign a short-term, low dollar deal (he doesn't need money as he gets all of his max deal he signed with Portland), and he could play 20-25 minutes for us, basically the Rudy / Brewer role.

I don't think there's another FA guard with as much potential to do big things for Denver. I'd even gamble and throw the full mid-level at him, which some teams might not do.

And if there is some medical miracle going on, and he can become even 75 percent of the player he was... he'd be a steal, and maybe what puts the Nuggs over the top. A reliable bench scorer, and someone they can actually go to in crunch time if need be.
