A George Karl and Stan Van Gundy "What If?" of the '11-'12 Shortened Lockout *Season

First of all, put your 'What If' glasses on.

Ok. Ready?

Now, I know a lot of you have issues with George Karl. Suppose this: before All Star weekend, the Orldando Magic fire Stan Van Gundy under Dwight Howard's request (this may actually happen soon). Then, in turn, the Nuggets fire George Karl, and hire Van Gundy. The Magic respond by hiring Karl. How would the rest of the season, and postseason play out? Find out after the Jump.

Down in the Magic Kingdom, Karl brings an 'attack the basket at all costs and play suffocating switching defense' philosophy. For the first 5-10 games, they struggle with switches and at times look confused on court. However, the more defensively experience learns to use Dwight Howard as a crutch down low and avoid losing him up top on pick and rolls. The Magic cruise, and end the season with the 3 seed out east.

In the Mile High city, Stan Van Gundy brings a more cohesive defensive attitude, and is more successful with Karl's own philosophy of starting the break on defense. With a stronger half court offense, the improved defense only adds further dimension to a rag-tag group of mid-level players who suddenly buy what their coach is selling after being beat on so many pick and roll switches and lost man back door cuts. The Nuggets are still hindered by their experience and talent level, but manage to out-duel their competitors in a close race to grab the 4 seed.

How do the playoffs end in this scenario, you ask? You decide!
