on the perimeter

what is it about the D where we are always way far from the 3-point shooters and have to make a run at the shooter? Is Karl's scheme to double team, or zone the paint and that takes our perimeter defenders away from the shooter? We have good man-to-man defenders such as CB, AA, Gallo, etc but they get picked, and the switched defender doesn't go out on the man with the ball. Pick and roll scheme seems to give the shooter free rein most of the game. what am I missing, I like George??
