Ever wanted to see a visual representation of a player's shots? Maybe which players are the best dunkers, the most clutch shooters, or the best offensive or defensive units?
Introducing Basketball-Reference's "Play Index +". You'll never want for another stat again.
For example, here is a representation of Al Harrington's shots through the 2011-2012 season:
And all you have to do is simply plug in the player's name. You can see his home/away splits, shot distance and percentages, shot type (dunk/hook/jump/layup/tip), when the shots came, if they were to take the lead or tie, and so on. It's an incredibly powerful tool and helps you understand player stats in a way you might never have considered before, and discover surprising things.
For example: this year, Al Harrington is shooting more than 12% better from 3 on the road than he is at home. Simply clicking on the corresponding value will sort the shot chart accordingly.
In any case...this is an amazing tool for basketball analysis and I highly encourage all Stiffs to check it out to learn up on our team and others. You'll surprise yourself with what you might find.
