It appears that Jerry Sloan is ready to coach again. The shortened season may work against him in this regard. In a normal season an underachieving, but playoff contending team, might fire their coach midseason, in hopes of a playoff run. Exactly this happened with our own Nuggets when Karl was brought in mid-season as coach of the team.
I don't see that happening this year with the compressed schedule. Underperforming but still near .500 coaches will be able to shift blame to the lockout and survive the year. Only the truly pathetic teams will be firing their coaches in season this year, and I don't see Sloan returning to coach a team with no chance of competing. At least that is my hope, as I would love for sloan to be available next offseason to become the next Nuggets coach. Karl is currently doing more to sabotage this team than I think even the most cynical among us (okay, me) would have ever suggested prior to the season. When the nuggets lose 4-1 in the first round this year after playing Al Harrington at C for 35 minutes a game, Jerry Sloan could be the consolation prize. I can't think of a coach better suited to the current players on the roster.
you get the sense he’s resisting the urge to make some formal announcement of his desires.
"I think if the right situation came along, whatever that is," he said before pausing to ponder. "I don’t know what the right situation is. We’ll have to wait and see, I guess."
