The Wilson Chandler re-signing

I saw many posts from different stiffs out here advocating for a trade involving Wilson Chandler among other Nuggets (Big Al and Ray Felton most frequent) for future first round picks / other players.

I just wanted to clarify this idea: it is not possible to trade Wilson Chandler under the current CBA. You see, he is a restricted free agent, thus meaning there are only 2 possible outcomes:

  1. we match the sheet he is offered, thus making him a Nugget for the next few years, or
  2. we don't match the sheet he is offered, thus losing him for nothing.

Restricted free agents cannot be signed and then traded in the first year following the signing of the new contract. We still have the possibility to sign any offer now, let him play for a year here (I really think he could be a very good player, if he wants to play in Denver - that is if he wants to live in Denver) and after that, see how it went and go from there (continue together or trade him for let's say maybe a first round pick in the '12 draft which would be right about then, thus knowing better which would be the lottery teams).

An article much better written than mine was written by our very own GN and can be found here

As a personal idea, I would like to see the Nuggets try to sign S. Dalembert (he will probably be worth around 4-5-6 million/year), but only if Nene resigns. I think he would be the perfect compliment to Nene, a big, strong, defensive minded player, that blocks shots and rebounds well. He and Mozgov would share duties at C, while Nene would move to PF and be backed-up by the birdman or Kenyon if he resigns. I would also take a look at DeAndre Jordan and maybe sign him to an offer sheet if Dalembert wouldn't sign.

Since we would not be winning anything next year, I would package Ray Felton and Big Al to any lottery team that would be willing to offer us an unprotected first round pick next year and any expiring contracts and would use our 22nd first round pick this year to select a rebounding specimen a la Kenneth Faried or a high risk/high reward guy like Marshon Brooks. I would also to draft Chris Singleton (if he is still available), as he is a terrific defender for the SF position.

Finally, I would re-sign JR and Afflalo and JR would be the backup point guard while Ty would play 36-38 mpg. Also, signing a 3rd point guard would help thus I would trade Koufos for a back-back-up point guard (maybe for Ben Uzoh from New Jersey and a 2nd round pick).
