Don’t get me wrong I love the idea of free agency this is America after all. With the current set up and thanks to Lebron, Wade and Bosh NBA free agenc y is going to ruin the NBA. Pretty soon we are only going to have a 10-12 team league because all of these players now think it’s ok to be championship chasers and join other superstars and take the easy way out to get to the top.

I personally feel that under the current NBA free agent system that the home team does not have the leverage needed to keep their players and/or superstars. I think the NBA should a have a 2 part system to help the home teams retain players.

1st as many people have talked about putting a franchise tag in effect. I think that should be able to be used on the same player for up to 2 years in a row. This might make that player think twice about not extending or taking the current offer from home team.

2nd the home team should be able to offer 2 more years on the max contract offered to the player along with the ability to offer 25% more per year than any other team can offer.

Example: The Nuggets could offer Melo 6 years at 20 million per year.

Teams trying to sign Melo could offer him 4 years at 15 million per year.

So by leaving he would leave 60 milllion on the table for the life of the contract or 20 million over the 4 years.

This way if players really wanted to leave they would take a larger risk or have to work with the home team on a sign and trade.
