Thank you, Mikhail Prokhorov

It's been just over a week since Mikhail Prokhorov shocked the basketball world by calling a press conference to declare that the Nets would not be trading for Carmelo Anthony. In the days leading up to the press conference, the leaked reports from "sources close to the negotiations" were out of control, and as a Nuggets fan, it was definitely taking it's toll. The media played up the story from every possible angle, most of which were decidedly biased against Denver, and it was nearly impossible to ignore. I became obsessed...checking for updates every hour, searching for new news on google and twitter feeds, and reading just about every opinion piece realted to the Melodrama. The games became secondary- almost meaningless in comparison to the trade, and my fellow Stiffs seemed to be in a similar funk, as the game threads weren't even about the game anymore. I had finally accepted that the trade was inevitable, Melo and Chauncey would be gone, it would be a full rebuild, but that we would get some decent assets in return.

Then Prohorov pulled the rug out from under everyone. After all this time talking myself into the NJ trade, it now looks like it's not going to happen. While nothing has really been resolved, as a fan, it's allowed me to start enjoying and caring about the games again. I'm enjoying watching this team play, and with the favorable schedule right now, it would seem we have a bit more time to enjoy it. Bottom line, regardless of the motive behind his announcement, I'm happy that he put a stop to all the BS and public negotiations. Whether or not a deal gets done, I realize now that I'd prefer it goes down behind closed doors.
