How different would our franchise be if Karl didn't get cancer?

According to many news outlets, Melo wants to win more than be on the East coast. This may just be a way to view Melo as more than just a diva, but it makes some sense. He's always wanted a big man to help knock the Lakers off the top spot. Kobe was the same way before they got Gasol. But my question is: what if Karl hadn't got cancer? The Nugs were battling for the top seed all last year and tanked after Karl got sidelined off the sideline. If they make a run deep in the playoffs instead of laying and egg against Utah, does any of this Melodrama even take place? The run to the Western conference finals seems like a distant memory, replaced by more recent failure. But a deep run two years in a row would prove to Melo that this franchise can win in its current state. Of course, that's only if you buy into the notion that Melo wants to win a Chip at all costs, no matter where, instead of just being blinded by the light.

Sadly, almost everything about the Nugs' current state will be changed next year, and much of this can be traced to when Karl was diagnosed.
