Big Apple or Bust

I wrote a post on September 26 titled the same thing back in the beginning of the season. In short, what I predicted is coming true though a lot of people disagreed back then. Search for it and read. If the Denver FO would have understood, Melo's desire to play only in NY was so strong, it would have saved a lot of time and money. Not to mention the toll it took on for the players and management of several NBA teams. As I stated, Melo controls his destiny as Denver will have to accept what NY has to offer. If they don't, they lose out on everything except a trade exemption. If they don't trade what NY is going to offer (My guess is Curry, Galinari, Douglass, Fields and Randolph=1st round pick from another team) then they will do a sign and trade at the end of the season, minus Curry and Fields. Douglas could be flipped for another 1st rounder as two other teams want him. So Denver will end up with two 1st round picks.

How did this Melo deal get like this. The media fed it and it took off like wild fire in the NBA world. All the while, Melo sat there quiet and not a peep. He did not want to look or sound like LeBron. He never stated that he wanted out of Denver in 'trade me now' terms. He just didn't want to sign the extension and wanted to keep his options open. We all knew that it meant, I will play out the season if need be and go to NY when the season is over. Its just that nobody wanted to admit this and hoped a trade with NJ would occurr because they were willing to offer the bank. It was the media who brought this all on including the fans who also fueled the fire with potential trades and who they wanted from NJ like it was a shopping spree. And now that they've been told this shopping spree was all a dream, reality has set in and everyone is pissed at Melo, NJ and Denver's FO. It's too bad it had to end this way, but hopefully, Denver will get over this with several good players and NY with Melo. As for Melo, he gets his wish to play in the Big Apple and hopefully, New Yorkers hope he's not a Bust.
