What to do with Devin Harris...

It seems increasingly unlikely that the proposed three-team trade involving New Jersey and Detroit is going to happen. I'm not here to opine on whether Denver should pull the trigger, or if New Jersey would even still be interested if Melo doesn't extend. Truth is, none of us know. We can only speculate and cross our fingers that the Nuggets get the best possible deal for Melo.

But if that trade DOES happen, then it creates an interesting dilemma at point guard. Devin Harris is a great player, but every Nuggets fan SHOULD agree that we all want this to be Ty Lawson's team. So what to do with Harris? Again, purely speculation, but it seems that this deal could work.

Memphis has been openly talking about dealing Mayo, and will likely try to resign Gasol next summer, which makes the former No. 2 overall pick seemingly useless, a draft day mistake that they wish they could take back. But in adding Harris, it gives them a legit point guard to go with Gay, Z-Bo and Gasol. That's enough to be on the cusp of the playoffs. Mike Conley just isn't the answer. It also creates an interesting future for the Nuggets:

PG - Lawson

SG - Mayo/Afflalo (no chance JR is re-signed)

SF - Afflalo/Morrow

PF - Favors/Nene

C - Nene/Thabeet

It's by no means a playoff team, but it gives Denver value back for Harris. And a core of Lawson, Mayo, Favors is enticing with all of the cap space that will be created after K-Mart and JR come off the books. The 2011 first rounder will likely be a lottery pick (can you say Harrison Barnes?).

Thoughts? LIke it? Tell me why I'm an idiot...
