Back Court of the Future

Our beloved Denver Nuggets are in a period of major uncertainty right now with Carmelo Anthony's "The Indecision", MeloDrama or whatever else you want to label his alleged desire to skip town.Trade rumor's flying around from multiple media outlets about this possible Nets/Nuggets/Pistons deal that could involve our Hometown Hero, Chauncey Billups. I have said many times here that I am absolutley againstany deal that involves Chauncey, however there is one thing we can be certain of if the alleged deal goes down. And that is we will have one of the best back court combination in the league.

Starting Point Guard of the future (The future could very well be by this time next week) Ty Lawson, is arguably the quickest player in the NBA, with or without the basketball in his hands. His god-given speed is incredible and a huge advantage for the Nuggets. When someone is that quick, it creates so many options on the floor. Ty can turn defense into offense in a matter of seconds. No one is able to stay in front of the kid, who Jason Kosmicki last night labelled as "Crazy" in an extremely funny interview after the game against the Suns, Lawson forces all of his teammates on the floor with him to push the tempo and run with him on the fastbreak. If they run the lanes correctly, they will be rewared with open 3 point attempts all game long. The energy that Ty brings is indescribable and it is the most valuble asset that he brings. If you need proof of it, think back to the Suns game at the start of the second quarter. Ty averages 10.9 points and 4.1 assists per this season, while only commiting1.7 turnovers. All of that in just 24 minutes of game time. Imagine what that crazy kid could do in 35+ minutes a game. If the unfortunate event of Chauncey getting traded happens, Lawson is more then capable and ready to take what Chauncey has taught him and become one of the best point guards in the entire leauge.

Starting Shooting Guard Arron Afflalo, fresh of his career-high 31 points on 11 - 14 shooting from the field, has quickly become my favorite Nugget, as i'm sure he is for some other fans. The reason being that you will struggle to find a player that works harder then AAA. Only really known for his defense when he was traded from Detroit to Denver along with Walter Sharpe for a second round pick (Warkentein working his magic!), Afflalo has worked very hard to get his offensive game up to a level where he is now capable of scoring 31 points in a game. His points coming from a variety of 3 pointers, drives and floaters in the lane. He now has a serious offensive repertoire whilst never letting up on his defense as he night in, night out continues to shut down the oppositions best offensive player. The whole way he goes about his business on and off the court is the definition of a great proffesional. Imagine when Carmelo eventually skips town, just how much more AAA can acheive. It is a scary thought no doubt. Let me leave you with these stats. Arron Afflalo shoots 86% from the three throw line, 42% from 3, and 51% from the field. He is one of the only a handful of players in the league this season, and indeed the last few seasons to shoot over 40% from 3, while also shooting over 50% form the field and over 80% at the line.

So my fellow Stiffs, if this proposed deal between the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons happens to go down, I will be upset. I will be upset because arguably the best player to ever play for this franchise will be leaving us. I will be upset that our Hometown Hero, and all round great guy, Chauncey Billups will be leaving. But I will also look ahead to the future of this great team. We are already well on the way to building another contender with AAA and Ty leading the charge.
