Looking For A Win Win Situation...

For weeks I have been frustrated by the lack of anything definitive about what the upcoming season will bring. I have also been racking my little brain trying to come up with a scenario that would give my favorite NBA team (The Nuggets) and my favorite player (Melo) a way to reach their goals in a manner that makes everyone happy. I think I have found one and would like to know what my fellow stiffs think...

Instead of the three year 65 million deal currently being offered as a take it or leave it, what if the Nuggets offered Melo a two year contract worth 42 million that included a player option after the first year. This guarantees two more seasons of Melo putting fannies in the seats at The Can while giving the new front office team the time and opportunity to make the changes we need to not only remain competitive, but also have a real shot at a championship.

I think this would also send the message to Melo that the organization understands he has misgivings about what has happened (or not happened) in the past year and a half, and that they will do everything they possibly can to put a championship ring on his finger. Given that he is only being asked for two years to see if it works, and that he would still only be 28 years old with plenty of prime years left to pursue a ring elsewhere, I think this also lets him know that the organization wants to do what is best for everyone.

Any thoughts?
