Nene out of FIBA World Championships

According to an article on the FIBA.com website, Nene had been suffering from inflammation in both legs during Brazil’s preparations.  And 12 minutes into a friendly behind-closed-doors game with France, the Big Brazilian broke down and was pulled from the game.

The team doctor for Brazil, Dr Carlos Vicente Andreoli, said: "Clinically, he has a muscle strain in the soleus muscle, which requires him to stay still for five to 10 days." I did a quick search on this type of injury and found that depending on the severity rehabilitation can involve anything from minor physical therapy along with strength and flexibility conditioning to surgery and a long rehab period. Aside from one's overall conditioning, some primary contributing factors can be an increase in body weight and running on hard surfaces.

I am sure we'll know more sometime soon, but the need for another big seems to have just gotten greater.
