The case for Andris Biedrins

Andris Biedrins deserves a starting spot on this Nuggets team. He is the defensive minded center the nuggets need. At the moment, the Nuggets lack a true center. Some believe Nene is a center (I do not), but it would be impossible to deny how weak the rotation at the 5 spot is and that there is room for vast improvement. Andris and Nene could play alongside each other in a twin tower dual center configuration. This has worked well for many teams, including the NBA champions 5 of the past 7 years.

Andris is most likely available. He is under contract at exactly 9 million a year for the next 3 years with a player option for the fourth year. He had a horrible year last year and his value is artificially deflated by his horrendous free throw shooting, which means he can be pried away for pretty cheap. These trade proposals illustrate what I think a fair trade for both sides would be.

Trade 1: My preferred option

Nuggets trade: Kenyon Martin, Minimum contract guy (butch), 3,000,000 Cash If necessary, clipper's 2nd round pick (protected) If necessary, 2012 2nd round pick. If necessary

Yes, Stan would include the 3,000,000, as he saves 8,000,000 this year in salary and salary tax.

GSW trades: Andris Biedrins, Brandan Wright, un-guaranteed min contract.

With this trade, the nuggets would be stronger in the three, four and five positions.

the depth chart would look something like this:

1- Chauncey (20), Ty (27), AC (1)

2- AAA (20), JR (22), Chauncey (6)

3- Melo (37), Al (10), Balk (1)

4- Nene (20), Al (12) Bird (10), B. Wright (6)

5- Beans (30), Nene (13), Bird (5)

Trade 2: Rumored option

Nuggets trade: Kenyon Martin

Warriors trade: Andris Biedrins, Dan Gadzurich

This trade is okay, but offers less flexibility for if when someone gets injured. Most likely option though.

Now, Golden state does this for more than just the obvious contractual reasons. Kenyon could mentor Ekpe Udoh and David Lee who could learn a thing or two about post up defense.

Lets take a look at andris' stats.

Stat wise, Kenyon martin and his 0.79 ws/48 is below average, as is his 13.4 PER. Obviously he brings more to the table than just stats, but compared to Beans' 0.139 ws/48 and 19.0 per in 08-09 it would be hard to imagine that this team wouldnt be better with beidrins, no?

One week and one day from today is when the nuggets can execute trade #2.
