Nene vs. Amar'e: a comparison.

Amare and nene are not so different, both missed 80 games in 05-06 and both played 82 games this past year. Amare is a 6'10" 250# PF who struggles at center. Nene is a 6'9" 260# PF who is a decent player at center. Both players can score in the paint, hit the midrange J and run the floor. One can play defense, and the other can rebound. Let's see a per30 minute statistical break down of the two:

Nene - PTS-12.36 FG%-.587 REB-6.83 OFF-1.8 FTA-4.53 FT%-.704 STL-1.25 BLK-0.89 AST-2.21 TO-1.36 PF-3.06

Amare- PTS-20.04 FG%-.557 REB-7.74 OFF-2.4 FTA-6.68 FT%-.771 STL-0.55 BLK-0.88 AST-0.87 TO-2.25 PF-2.97

Nene- 14 double doubles, 2 techs, 0 flagrant, 1.6 a/t, 7dq Amare- 31 double doubles, 13 techs, 3 flagrant, 0.4 a/t, 2dq Very similar stats except for points, rebounds, free throw attempts, assists and turn overs. When you consider number of touches, Nash setting up amare and defense, Nene starts to look pretty good. Nene needs to play at PF, but can play C in a small ball lineup or if the C is injured. Amare can't play C period. Imagine how well nene would play at the 4. Get him to play the pick n roll like amare, and watch the dominance. Go nugs! 2011 should be great.
