Nuggets power forward Kenyon Martin underwent left knee surgery this summer and an NBA source said, "I don't think he'll be ready for training camp."

Martin is the beating heart of the Nuggets defense, and also played some of his best offensive basketball last winter, before injuring his left knee, which led to platelet-rich plasma therapy in March. Martin returned for the postseason and played valiantly on the still-recovering knee, averaging 10.0 points and 8.3 rebounds.

Martin's rehab will determine when he can return to the court, most likely in the early months of the 2010-11 season.

Martin is rehabbing in different cities this summer, notably Dallas and Aspen, where he's hosting his Hoops for Kids All-Star Celebrity Basketball Camp from July 6-8.

Martin will be in the last season of his contract this coming season, and he's due to make around $16.5 million. The 32-year-old is a key part of Denver's lineup, but because of his expiring contract, there is a possibility he could be moved to a team looking for cap space next summer.

Nuggets coach George Karl has said multiple times that the team is inquiring about adding a big man to the roster. Martin, Nene and Chris Andersen all dealt with injuries last spring. Andersen, a reserve center, also is recovering from knee surgery this summer.

The Nuggets have not yet released a training camp and preseason schedule for next season, though it will likely start in late September.

well that answers some of the questions that we had earlier... I'm curious to why he didn't have it right after the season b/c then he prob could've made it for training camp for sure.

I hope we could still trade him. It shouldn't affect it, b/c most teams looking at him will want him for his contract anyways
