Yes we all want the likes of a Marc Gasol, Jeff Foster, or Brendan Haywood. Fact of the matter is, unless we are willing to depart with JR "my name is Earl, no wait its not" Smith we're not getting any of those three. So why not do something simple? Like this
Den- Sends a future protected first round Pick to NJ
NJ- Sends Josh Boone to Denver
Why Denver does it- We are all quite familiar with the fact that Denver is not adverse to dealing away draft picks, as they pretty much have for what, three years running now? We also have seen that Denver is capable of pulling a move on draft day to nab a prospect if the opportunity becomes available. Boone offers just what Denver needs, a 6'10 240lb banger who averages just under 14 rebs per 48 minutes. Boone is no superstar, so he'd only need around 10-20 mins a game. He only costs us an extra 2 million so with an exception (not sure how the rules work when it comes to dealing draft picks and exceptions, maybe Denver has to take back an NJ scrub or something to make it work but its doable)
Why NJ does it- As bright as NJ 2009-2010 playoff hopes are...I'm pretty sure departing with Boone is not something they are adverse too. In addition a first rounder is probably a little over priced for Boone so they're getting a good deal. The first rounder gives them another young player to bring in to help build for the future, someone you know who likes to pass the ball a lot and stand around and watch while the pretentious superstar diva who just came to town tries to single handedly win a championship with a bunch of scrubs who are no better then the team he was just on but Jay-z promised him a big shiny new brooklyn penthouse and all the NY ass he could get...plus two verses in an upcoming song on some album which will probably get cut or at best put on some sort of bonus special edition disc 2 "the songs from the vault...featuring Lebron" bs. Anyway where was I before that ridiculous run on tangent of a sentence, its a trade that gives NJ some future options, a good deal and doesn't impede upon their cap space for the offseason.
Why Denver doesn't do it- We've seen that first rounders can be quite effective in the rotation when given the chance. Plus again the extra money comes into play, but its only 4 mil after tax which I'm pretty sure Stan the man could afford.
Why NJ doesn't do it- Umm Josh Boone is a fan favorite? He won trade immunity in a high-stakes poker game with Kiki "Yes I really did give NJ three first rounders and Kmart a max contract" Vandeweghe ? Fact is, at least imo, if you can get a first rounder for Josh Boone, you take the deal
