Lawson vs. Carter Part 1

Lawson: 26 min, 7-13 FG, 54% FG, 0-2 3PT, 0% 3PT, 3-3 FT, 100% FT, 17 PTS, 4 REB (1 OFF- 3 DEF), 6 AST, 1 STL, 1 TO, +12 overall.

Carter: 17 min, 1-6 FG, 17% FG, 0-1 3PT, 0% 3PT, 0-0 FT, 2 PTS, 3 REB (3 DEF), 5 AST, 1 STL, 0 TO, -1 overall.

Who played the better game? Obviously Ty Lawson.

Will he be better for the whole season? Most Likely.

Who deserves more minutes? Ty Lawson.

Enough said.

OFFENSIVELY:

Lawson took very high percentage shots, mostly lay-ups and one 15 ft. jumper in transition. His 3 pointers looked a little shaky but i believe they'll come around. Lawson brought a ton of energy to the game which Carter just doesn't have. The offense really wasn't working until Lawson brought the spark. His transition points and penetration in the lane time after time is what got the Nuggets going tonight. On the other hand while Carter was in the game the offense was stagnant and nothing really worked. It wasn't until the second quarter when Chauncey hit a couple of threes to keep the Nuggets in the game that we started scoring points. After that stretch the offense went dull again until Lawson was put in during the last minutes of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth. Lawson is by far a better offensive player. He's not only a better scorer but also a more effective passer. With Lawson in the lane and Melo, Chauncey, and J.R. on the perimeter our offense will be very hard to stop unless all of them go cold. Another thing to think about... couldn't you see a little resemblance between Ty Lawson and Tony Parker tonight? Both are great in transition and both get to the rim at ease. The only main difference is the pull up jumper. Once Lawson develops a pull up jumper he'll be one of the better guards in the league.

DEFENSIVELY:

Lawson also looked better although neither of them looked very good. Both are gamblers, meaning they gamble for steals and when they miss they're very ineffective. The difference between the two is that Lawson has the speed to recover while AC simply doesn't. When Carter was in the game (mostly the second quarter) I was getting so frustrated because he would gamble for steals and Williams would burn him over and over again. Even when Carter would try to pressure Williams bringing the ball down the court Williams would burn him. Fortunately, Williams was often stopped by help defense in transition. When Lawson was in the game I didn't see too much of this. Lawson could pressure Williams and even when he was beat, he had the recovery to stop him. The main difference in the 4th quarter was the Williams' penetration was stopped and no one else could score for the Jazz. All in all I have some concerns for both of them Defensively. They're easy targets to post up because of their size (Carter- 6'2 195 lbs, Lawson- 5'11, 195 lbs.). Lawson is smaller so it might be easier, but he's also a lot stronger. One example is when Brewer was trying to post up and Lawson simply pushed him out of the paint. Overall I'd say neither are great defensive players; however, Lawson is better because of his strength and speed.

ALL IN ALL: Lawson > Carter
